During the miserable period when the pandemic COVID-19 virus is spreading over almost everywhere of the globe, people tend to feel helpless as reading or watching the news via various channels. It is particularly astonishing seeing so many people lying down on the floor of hospital waiting for limited medical care, and the scene with so many coffins in a church where people lost their loved ones could not attend the funeral with relatives to sooth the soul of the dead. It’s a bit ironic that a church is supposedly a palace spreading happiness, gratitude, and love, where people share hopes and bright visions with each other. How hard it is to imagine a priest conducted the funeral affairs in an industrial scale at the peacetime.
The message sent by my husband’s cousin (Sister LiNan) from Mainland China might also reflect the scene mentioned above that sets the context of a ridiculous sendoff of another cousin (Sister ZhiJun) in mid of February. Over 80 years old ZhiJun has been sick of cancer for some times. Her family found impossible to send her to hospital for her cancer recurrence as Wuhan was just locked down because of COVID-19 virus. Furthermore, ZhiJun was refused to send to hospital’s morgue after her death of cancer, but was directly sent to the municipal cremation ground by the firefighter to burn to ashes without accompany of her family. The whole process lasted within a half day. What a sad joke that ZhiJun and her family encountered during peacetime. It was not the fault of anybody, but a coincidence in a bad time. The “Impermanence” was so real that was sadly experienced by her family and the whole big family on both sides of Taiwan Straits.
ZhiJun was so energetic to explore all possibilities in life, and enthusiastic to climb mountains and to find beautiful landscapes as templates of her Chinese paintings. Her unbelievable story was only one of them which showed destined fates of many unfortunate people during this bad time that was only when people were destroyed by war, flood, or a widespread plague.
The reports said that the global virus outbreak has caused huge impacts on both life and property which have been proven by the global death toll and the crash of NY Stock exchange. The fears and uncertainty of how long the pandemic disease will last have resulted in mental stress and depression for many people who were bothered with neurasthenia. What people need are simply positive messages sent from music, song, painting, book, soft and sweet words, or just a smile, a nod, or a hug. It’s not a big deal, but a sincere and caring attitude toward a family and friend, or even, a stranger.
Who could share his positive energy with others? If you have no religion, the answer is to look up to the universe, the mighty energy, quietly spreading the righteousness over everywhere without a word. The sun also selflessly radiates sunlight to the earth nurturing inclusively all biological subjects. People seek comfort, warmness, and energy from the sun through its light and heat. Some people who are always bright and positive, full of virtues and kindness, could also emit positive energy that enables other people motivated.
